Recent Aurora Photos! Print E-mail
Wednesday, 06 March 2013

We've been sent some great pictures from the most recent alerts. It has all been a bit quiet this year, considering we're at solar maximum. However this solar cycle seems to be quite quiet generally (there are natural variations). Hopefully things will become more active as the year goes on! Thanks to Kevin Sharman and Mike Isaak for the images!

Kevin Sharman took these great photos taken at around 5am in Tumbler Ridge, BC on Feb 20th 2013. As Kevin says, "I’m still waiting for that direct hit, ‘singe the eyebrows’ CME, but until then, these events are good photography practice."

Mike Isaak captured these great images. The first:

"I was out last night taking photos of the Spaca Moskalyk Ukrainian Church before it is destroyed to ashes by a scheduled burning on March 9th due to foundation issues, when the aurora came out for a bit. My main goal was to document this church under the stars and I was lucky enough to capture a little aurora action as well. You can see the faint aurora glow among the stars and on the front of the church. There wasn't a large window of opportunity to shoot aurora last night, due to cloud cover but I'm glad I was able to capture one last photo of this unique landmark."
And the second:
"This aurora photo is from the early morning hours of March 2nd and in the same area as the church shot. I drove around for quite some time east of Edmonton to find some partly clear skies and stumbled upon this old homestead. I could see a small band of aurora on the horizon and this spooky fog rolled in while I was taking photos, making for an interesting aurora shot."

Kevin Sharman took these excellent photos in Tumbler Ridge, BC on March 1 2013 after battling with the cloud cover! Looks like it was worth it!
