There has been quite a bit of solar activity recently, especially this Rememberance Day weekend. This led to a rather disturbed magnetosphere giving rise to some dazzling displays of the Northern Lights. With their cameras in the right place at the right time were the following; John Andersen, Mark Coker and Kate Campbell, Thomas Vogt, Mike Isaak, Theresa Tanner, Zoltan Kenwell, Damien Sundgren, Andrew Caitens, Jesse Martineau, Beverly Nelson, Libby Daghorn, Dan Jurak, Darcy Conn, Chris Ratzlaff, Jeff Wallace, Larry Erlendson, Kevin Tuong, Sarah Miyata-Kane and Jay Lee. Thanks for sharing! John Andersen shared these great photos he took near Bon Accord of the event from Aug 31. Mark Coker and Kate Campbell sent these great images captured during a holiday to the Rockies. These images were taken at Pyramid Lake, near Jasper, AB. during the Oct. 8 event.
Mike Isaak was out in Elk Island National Park, AB capturing this great image of the Nov. 8/9 event. Perseverence paid off when he decided to see if he could outwait the cloud cover at 05:30. You can see more of Mikes's photos in Mike's Gallery. Theresa Tanner took these great images from 23:00 until 05:30 between Stettler and Alix, AB on Nov. 8/9. The reds in her photos put in an appearance around 03:30.
Damien Sundgren captured these stunning images from Canmore, AB of the Nov. 8/9 event. You can see more of his images in Damien's Gallery. Andrew Caitens took this breathtaking panorama from the top of Tunnel Mountain in Banff, AB during the Nov. 8/9 event, between 01:00 and 02:00. Jesse Martineau captured these really great photos from the Nov. 8/9 event.
Darcy Conn took these stunning photos from the Nov. 10/11 event from just north of Regina, SK at approximately 23:00.
Zoltan Kenwell was out again on Nov. 10/11. In his words: It was a crazy show on the Alberta prairies this morning! There were three major displays that lit up the sky. At one point the Aurora went south past the Zenith and was about 20 degrees off the southern horizon. It has only done this a few times in the many years I have been photographing the Aurora. Fantastic display! It was chilly though. -22 degree C at one point. I was testing out new winter boots. They passed, with warm toes! Canon 5DII, EF16-35mm f2.8, EF15mm Fisheye and the Rokinon 15mm f2.8. ISO 1600-3200 shutter speeds 3-12 seconds. These images are compositions from time lapse footage that I will be displaying in the near future. Enjoy http://photos.infocusimagery.com/p385031275 Jeff Wallace took these wonderful images from the events over the weekend. The first two are from the event on Nov. 8/9 from the Buffalo Loop at Elk Island National Park, AB. The other images are from Astontin Lake (also Elk Island) during the Nov. 10/11 event.
